dc.description.abstractThe Paraná coastline is home to a large number of small producers of pupunha palm heart, and its municipalities have a low Human Development Index. Self-construction using cement pieces mixed with agricultural waste is one of the ways to combat poverty and reduce environmental impact. This study assesses the technical feasibility of cementitious composites with partial replacement of sand by lignocellulosic material from pupunha palm heart. Test specimens were prepared from cementitious composites filled with fibers from the outer layer of pupunha palm heart. The plant fibers were used in their natural state and treated with Tetraethyl Orthosilicate (TEOS). The fibers were ground and characterized for water absorption, FTIR, TGA, DSC, and their microstructure was analyzed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The treated fibers showed a decrease in water absorption, and microstructure analysis revealed that TEOS treatment resulted in silica deposition on the fiber's surface. Composites were prepared by replacing sand in mass proportions of Reference (0%), 1%, 1.5%, and 2% with plant fibers. Characterizations were performed in both fresh and hardened states. Consistency table test, water absorption, void content, capillarity, flexural tensile strength, and compression tests were conducted. With increasing substitution, the mortars experienced a loss of consistency, and a superplasticizer additive was used to standardize the spread. The Reference sample obtained the lowest absorption percentage and void index compared to the others, while samples with treated fibers showed lower absorption and void index values compared to samples with untreated fibers. In terms of strength tests, the reference mortar exhibited the best performance, followed by mortars with treated and untreated fibers. Despite the reduction in compressive and tensile strengths, it was observed that the specimens with fibers displayed a less brittle behavior before failure. With the exception of the samples with untreated fiber and sand replacement of 1.5% and 2%, all others exhibited compressive strength exceeding the minimum required by the standard. Samples that surpassed the minimum tensile strength requirement were associated with a 1% fiber replacement, both for treated and untreated fibers, in addition to those treated with 1.5%. These results are promising for the use of fibers in rural construction elements and components that do not require structural performance.pt_BR
dc.description.resumoO litoral paranaense possui um grande número de pequenos produtores de palmito pupunha e os seus municípios têm baixo índice de desenvolvimento humano. A autoconstrução com peças de cimento adicionadas de resíduos agrícolas é uma das formas de combate à pobreza e diminuir o impacto ambiental. Avalia-se aqui a viabilidade técnica de compósitos cimentícios com substituição parcial da areia por material lignocelulósico proveniente de palmito pupunha. Foram preparados corpos de prova a partir de compósitos cimentícios com enchimento com fibras da capa de palmito pupunha. As fibras vegetais foram usadas naturais e tratadas com Tetraetil Ortosilicato (TEOS). As fibras foram moídas e caracterizadas quanto à absorção de água, FTIR, TGA, DSC e analisada a sua microestrutura com microscópio eletrônico de varredura (MEV). As fibras tratadas apresentaram uma diminuição da absorção de água. E as análises da microestrutura mostraram que o tratamento com o TEOS gerou a deposição de sílica na superfície da fibra. Os compósitos foram preparados pela substituição da areia nas proporções mássicas de Referência (0%), 1%, 1,5% e 2% por fibras vegetais. As caracterizações foram realizadas na mistura nos estados fresco e endurecido. Foi realizado ensaio da mesa de consistência, absorção de água, índice de vazios, capilaridade, resistência à tração na flexão e compressão. Com a substituição as argamassas tiveram perda de consistência crescente e foi utilizado um aditivo superplastificante para padronizar o espalhamento. A amostra Referência obteve a menor porcentagem de absorção e índice de vazios das demais, enquanto que as amostras com fibras tratadas tiveram índices menores de absorção e de índice de vazios em relação as amostras com fibras sem tratamento. Para os ensaios de resistência, a argamassa de referência foi a de melhor desempenho, seguido pelas argamassas de fibras tratadas e fibras não tratada. Apesar da diminuição das resistências à compressão e resistência à tração, foi observado que os corpos de prova com fibras apresentaram um comportamento menos frágil antes da ruptura. Com a exceção das amostras de fibra sem tratamento com substituição de areia de 1,5% e 2%, todas as demais apresentaram resistência à compressão superior ao mínimo exigido pela norma. As amostras que excederam o requisito mínimo de resistência à tração estavam associadas à substituição de 1%, tanto para as fibras tratadas quanto para as não tratadas, além daquela com fibra tratada com 1,5%. Estes resultados se mostram promissores na utilização das fibras em peças e componentes construtivos rurais que não exigem desempenho estrutural.pt_BR
